About

Dr. Hooper received her doctoral degree from the Ohio State University in Human Development and Family Science with a specialization in Couple and Family Therapy. Prior to this, she received her M.S. from OSU in Human Development and Family Science and her B.A. from Chatham University in Psychology and Cultural Studies. Dr. Hooper has clinical experience working with individual, couple, and family clients and was a Family Advocate at the Schoenbaum Family Center in Columbus, Ohio working with preschoolers and their families.

Dr. Hooper’s primary clinical and research interests concern children’s emotion socialization within the family context. At OSU she worked on a longitudinal project investigating preschool age children’s attentional control and emotion regulation, as well as a pilot intervention project evaluating a family therapy based intervention for depressed mothers and their young children. In this work, she has focused on observational coding methods and intervention development. Dr. Hooper has also worked as an intervention therapist and clinical consultant at Nationwide Children’s Hospital on projects focusing on body image and disorders of sexual development. She has published and presented at national and international conferences on topics related to children’s early emotional development and socialization.
